At least 46 Palesatinians were killed in Israeli ground offensive and airstrikes across Gaza yesterday. In one of the bloodiest days of the offensive, Israeli tanks plunged deeper into Gaza in the fighting against Hamas. With this, the death toll in the current round of conflict has risen to 342 since the beginning of the Israeli campaign 'Operation Protective Edge' on the 8th of this month. 40,000 Palestinians have also been displaced.

Three Israelis, including a soldier, have also died since the beginning of the campaign.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will arrive in the region soon to revive a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. UN political affairs chief Jeffrey Feltman said, Mr Ban's visit is aimed at helping Israelis and Palestinians to end the violence and find a way forward.
