<span style="color: #222222;">At least 38 people were killed and 30 injured in suicide attacks in southern Syria today. State news agency Sanaa said the attacks took place in and around the government-held city of Sweida.<br />''<br />'' It said, in one of the attacks, security forces chased and killed two attackers before they could blow themselves up. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The state media said Syrian air force struck militant hideouts after soldiers thwarted an attempt by fighters to infiltrate the three villages. Militants also attacked three villages north-east of the city.<br />''</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The regime of President Bashar al-Assad has in recent weeks ousted rebels from a majority of the country's south, part of which borders the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The regime controls almost all of Sweida province but IS retains a presence in desert areas of its north and east.</span><br />''  <br />
