In Tamil Nadu, 38 people were killed in a fire accident in a cracker factory at Muthalaipatti near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district. More than 50 persons injured in the yesterday's mishap. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Virudunagar, Sattur, Madurai and Sivakasi. AIR correspondent reports that six State Ministers including Finance Minister O Paneerselvam and Electricity Minister Natham Viswanathan visited the Sivakasi Hospital last night. Meanwhile, a foreman of the factory has been arrested by local police late last night. Cases have been filed for violating safety norms against the owner and contractor.
