In Iraq, at least 35 people were killed and scores more wounded in a series of deadly attacks across the country on Wednesday. According to Voice of Iraq news agency, in the country's south in Kut district a suicide bomber killed 20 and wounded 90 others in an attack on a police station. The killed people include a police brigadier and a colonel. A security source told the agency that a suicide bomber blew up a car crammed with explosives near the building of the local council. In a separate incident a suicide car bomber targeted the Qahira police station in the north of Baghdad, killing 11 and injuring 34 others. The blast was so strong that part of the police station’s building went down. In another incident on Haifa street in central Baghdad, 10 people were wounded by an improvised explosive device. A car bomb hit a police check point in Ameiriya, west Baghdad, wounding three people. A car bomber also hit a police check point in Al-Muqdadiya, in Diyala province, killing three and wounding 18. In Karbala, a suicide car bomber targeted a police station in Al-Nasser district, killing one person and injuring at least 30, including policemen. Two car bombs also exploded in Ramadi, west of the capital Baghdad. In eastern Mosul, a car bomb hit an army check point, injuring three people, including a child. There are also early reports of an attack in a car park in Basra. Meanwhile Iraqi authorities have arrested a large number of people on the charges of their alignment with al-Qaeda. The incidents have taken place when US military is ending its combat operation on 31st August.
