At least 29 children have been killed after a cargo truck carrying them, crashed into a roadside ditch in Mirasarai Upazila of Chittagong in Bangladesh. The children were returning home in the ill fated truck after winning an inter-school football tournament when the driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the road side ditch. According to local officials 29 bodies have been recovered so far and search rescue operations are continuing. The death toll is likely to go up as the truck was reported to have been carrying more than 60 children when the accident occurred and many are feared to be trapped in the sunken truck. Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have condoled the death of students in the road mishap and directed the authorities concerned to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
