In Malaysia, at least two people have been killed and life paralysed by heavy rain and severe storm in the northern state of Penang. <br/><br/>In a statement, chief minister Lim Guan Eng said at least 2,000 people had been evacuated and 80 percent of the state was hit by typhoon-like winds and heavy rain. He said floodwaters have risen to 12 feet, submerging houses in parts of the State. Amy personnel have been deployed to help in the rescue operation. <br/><br/>Lim also warned that more rain was expected and advised residents to stay at home. Malaysian news agency Bernama said hundreds of trees were toppled and roads were submerged, leaving many areas practically paralysed. <br/><br/>According to Bernama, Lim told reporters that the authorities remain fearful that there may still be untoward incidents because of the strong winds and flash floods might recur.<br/>
