At least 181 killed in Thai floods; nearly 7.8mn people rendered homless

Thai government says, severe flooding in the country has left 181 people dead over the past month. Authorities today said 7.8 million people have been affected mainly in the northeast and south, with homes submerged and farmland damaged.According to officials, fifty-one of Thailand's 76 provinces have been hit by the floods. In southern Songkhla province, 26 people were killed when waters of several metres high swept through the major city of Hat Yai last week. Bangkok has been on standby but has so far avoided major flooding.
