At least 17 people killed in rain-related incidents in UP; Ten feared dead in Assam

Rain continued to lash most parts of North India. 17 people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh. Officials said, while 4 persons were killed in Unnao, three each died in Farukhabad and Allahabad, two in Lucknow and one each in Etawah, Auraiya, Fatehpur, Chitrakoot and Varanasi districts on Monday. AIR correspondent report that major rivers the Ganga, the Sharda and the Ghagra continued to play havoc at a number of places in the state. In Uttarakhand, normal life has been disrupted in many areas due to heavy rain. Pilgrimage to the central Himalayan shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath has been stopped following landslides at various places. The Gangotri route continued to remain blocked for the 10th consecutive day today. In Assam, at least ten persons are feared to have drowned when they were washed away in a flash flood in the Gaai River in Dhemaji district on Monday. In West Bengal, six more people lost their lives due to flood. While 3 people died in Bankura, 2 lost their lives in South 24 Parganas and 1 person perished in Howrah on Monday. Flood has affected about 25 lakh people in the state.
