Rain continued to lash most parts of North India. 17 people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh. Officials said, while 4 persons were killed in Unnao, three each died in Farukhabad and Allahabad, two in Lucknow and one each in Etawah, Auraiya, Fatehpur, Chitrakoot and Varanasi districts on Monday. AIR correspondent report that major rivers the Ganga, the Sharda and the Ghagra continued to play havoc at a number of places in the state.In Uttarakhand, normal life has been disrupted in many areas due to heavy rain. Pilgrimage to the central Himalayan shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath has been stopped following landslides at various places. The Gangotri route continued to remain blocked for the 10th consecutive day today.In Assam, the flood situation in Dhemaji district remained grim for the second day today affecting many new areas. More than 40 thousand population in about 90 villages have been marooned by the rising waters of the rivers-Gaai and Jia Dhol. The rivers in the district are maintaining a rising trend following incessant rains in the catchments hilly areas of neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh during last 36 hours. AIR correspondent reports that the district virtually remained cut-off by both road and railway network since Monday following washing away of large portions of the National Highway and the rail line connecting the district at Sisi Borgaon-Tokobari. As many as ten persons were swept away by flash floods in the river Gaai on Monday. However, three of them were rescued and airlifted to safer places by the Army helicopters pressed into service. Search for seven more missing persons are on. The district authorities have geared up relief and rescue works among the marooned people. In West Bengal, six more people lost their lives due to flood. While 3 people died in Bankura, 2 lost their lives in South 24 Parganas and 1 person perished in Howrah on Monday. Flood has affected about 25 lakh people in the state. ‘
