Uttar Pradesh experienced widespread rain and thunder storm under the influence of cyclone Hudhud. According to the reports, 17 persons were killed in rain and storm related incidents in the eastern parts of the state where the cyclonic effect was more severe.

Four persons each were killed in separate incidents in Gorakhpur and Barabanki while two each lost their lives in Gonda and Azamgarh due to inclement weather. Death reports were also received from Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkarnagar, Basti and Kushinagar due to tree falling, house collapse and road accidents.

Our correspondent reports that due to tree uprooting, the Balrampur- Bahraich Buddh cicuit route was blocked for several hours. Many flights could not land at Lucknow airport due to adverse weather.

The eastern UP bore the brunt of Hudhud effects where standing sugarcane, paddy and banana crops were largely destroyed due to gusty winds and incessant rains.

Most of the eastern part of the state witnessed eight to ten degrees of fall in temperature, which was below normal. Most offices and colleges in the state capital and in other places wore a deserted look due to intermittent rain.
