At least 15 killed, 40 injured in suicide bomb blast near Muharram procession in Karachi

A suicide bomber targeted the Muslim Shia Ashura procession killing at least 15 people and injuring 40 others in the port city of Karachi, marking a bloody start of the holiest day of Muharram. The bomb blast came close on the heels after militant bombings and suicide attacks had killed eight people in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir capital of Muzaffarabad and Karachi last night, marking a bloody start of the holiest day on the Shia Muslim calendar. Fire broke out after the blast, fanning thick smoke into the sky and people were running in all directions. TV footage showed the powerful blast occurred as hundreds of people participating in the procession were making their way through M A Jinnah Road, one of Karachi's main thoroughfares.
