In Congo, at least 14 UN peacekeepers killed and 53 injured in an attack in the east of the country. The UN's Monusco mission said the peacekeepers were attacked by suspected rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces in North Kivu province. <br/><br/>The peacekeeping base is located about 45 kilometers from the town of Beni, which has been repeatedly hit by rebels. UN Deputy spokesman Farhan Haq in New York said the peacekeepers were mainly from Tanzania and at least five Congolese soldiers also were killed in the assault. <br/><br/>UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the attack as a war crime and urged Congolese authorities to swiftly investigate. According to UN peacekeeping data, nearly 300 peacekeepers have been killed since the UN mission arrived in 1999.
