In Sikkim, at least 12 Border Roads Organisation personnel killed and other 4 ITBP Jawans are missing due to flash flood and landslides. The incident occurred on Friday at Pegong about 162 kilometers off Gangtok. They were deployed at Chungthang subdivision of north district and they were reportedly in a camp at the time of mishap. Heavy rain since last 24 hours in the area triggered multiple land slides between Chungthang to Lachung and damaged some houses along the roadside. The State Government has declared a State of Alert along the establishments located on the river banks right from Lachen, Lachung, Chungthang, Mangan, Dikchu, Singtam and Rangpo. The rescue operation assisted by the Army, ITBP and state rescued relief team is in progress. Two IAF helicopters have been deployed for rescue mission. The State Chief Secretary, Karma Gyatso has directed concerned departments to restore necessary connectivity and essential supply in the area.
