The Karnataka Assembly and Council session begins today in Bangalore with the Joint address by Governor H R Bharadwaj. The Session is scheduled till 20th of this month. The Yeddyurappa Government is bracing up to face the Opposition onslaught on land scam and nepotism issues. The Congress Legislature Party met yesterday to work out strategies for the session. The leaders resolved to demand discussions and press for a CBI inquiry into the land deals. JD(S) spokesperson and MLC Y S V Datta said the party members will seek priority for the land scam issue during debate in both the Houses. For the first time in the history of the State Legislature, a petition seeking removal of the Legislative Council deputy chairman will be taken up in the session. MLCs Doddarange Gowda and D S Veeraiah have submitted a petition to Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy, seeking permission to move a resolution to remove Deputy Chairman Puttanna. As per Article 180 (C) of the Constitution, the deputy chairman could be removed with a majority vote of the total number of members. The total strength of the Council is 75. The Deputy Chairman could be removed if 38 members favour his stepping down. BJP has 40 members in the Council.
