Assembly polls: 7 th & final phase of voting in UP and Goa tomorrow

Voting for the seventh and final phase in Uttar Pradesh and in Goa will be held tomorrow bringing to an end Assembly polls in five states. Voting is already over in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur. Counting will be held on next Tuesday.

The seventh phase polling in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow will cover 60 seats spread over 10 districts. This phase of election will decide the fate of 962 candidates including Mohammad Azam Khan of SP. The strength of the Assembly in Uttar Pradesh is 425 with ruling BSP, SP, BJP and Congress being the main contenders. The final phase would cover Bijnore, Moradabad, Bheem Nagar, Rampur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri. More than 1.82 crore voters are eligible to vote.

In Goa, a total of 215 candidates are in the fray for the 40-member Legislative Assembly. Over 10.25 lakh voters are eligible to cast their ballot. The coastal state is the first in the country to adopt Poll Monitoring System in the assembly elections. Main contenders are Congress-NCP and BJP-MGP alliances.
