Assam’s Panchayat & Rural Development succeeds in implementing MGNREGA

In Assam, the Panchayat and Rural Development department has achieved progress in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act MG NREGA.Official sources said that, as many as 1.24 crore man-days were generated under MGNREGA up to September this year. It may be recalled that the department launched social auditing programme in Gram Panchayats on 2nd October to ensure transparency and check corruption in Panchayati Raj Institutions.It would cover more than 2000 villages under 219 development blocks in the state.Assam has recorded an increase of around 28 lakh man-days in the year 2011 under MGNREGA. While the total of 98 lakh man-days were generated last year, this year the figure has increased to 1 crore 24 lakh. With the increase of man-days, the utilization of fund has also been increased to 62 percent in comparison to previous year.Assam government has given emphasis on the cultivation of Nimbu, Cocoa and other items under the act to provide better stabilization of the economic stature of the rural population.
