Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi has expressed willingness on using expertise from neighbouring Bangladesh to tackle soil erosion in the state.Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi in his meeting with DoNER secretary Jayati Chandra in Guwahati yesterday said the problem of erosion in Assam was similar to Bangladesh. Chief Minister Mr.Gogoi, in his recent visit to Bangladesh had witnessed the steps taken by Bangladesh to check river bank erosion.Mr.Gogoi also stressed on the benefits of using the waterways of the river Brahmaputra and the need to develop infrastructure in the region.Flood and soil erosion in Assam affected lakhs of people every year and damaged standing crops.According to official reports, Assam has lost more than four lakh hectare lands due to erosion since 1950. Around 2 lakh 50 thousand people in 330 villages have been affected in recent flood and erosion in four districts of Upper Assam.
