Assam violence:Life returning to normal in few districts; PM visit tomorrow

In the violence hit three districts of Assam, situation is gradually returning to normal. No untoward incidents has been reported since last evening. In the Kokrajhar district, day curfew has been lifted for ten hours from 8 am. 150 people have been arrested for their involvement in the violent acts. About three lakh people have been rehabilitated in 250 relief camps in the wake of violence.

Our Guwahati correspondent reports that patrolling by para military force and Assam police have been intensified to keep a close watch on anti-social elements. Army is staging flag marches in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that the violence is handi-work of miscreants to create disturbances. He visited the violence affected areas of Kokrajahr yesterday. In a bit to instill confidence among all sections of the society, in the violence affected districts, peace committees have been formed.

Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh is visiting the violence hit Kokrajhar District of Assam tomorrow to review the steps taken to control the situation. The Prime Minister is likely to review the measures taken by the government for relief and rehabilitation.
