In Assam, security forces have intensified patrolling in the violence hit Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts. Shoot-at-sight order has already been issued and indefinite curfew clamped in Kokrajhar district. Indefinite curfew has also been clamped in Dhubri and Bilasipara sub-division in Dhubri district since yesterday.
Arson was reported from Kendabazar, Uttar Golamguri, Karaibari and Gendabajar areas. Unidentified miscreants set ablaze abandoned houses in Kokrajhar district yesterday. Around 500 people left Kokrajhar district and reached neighbouring Bilasipara in Dhubri district. The district administration has set up five relief camps for them.
Train services are being affected due to the ongoing violence. North East Frontier Railway sources said that 30 passenger trains including Rajdhani Express were stranded at different stations. Our correspondent reports that the Army has been called in the violence hit Kokrajhar district. 11 additional companies of Para-military forces have been deployed in Kokrajhar and another four companies in Chirang district. Another 10 companies will be deployed soon to maintain law and order situation. Security measures have also been tightened in Dhubri district. Around 60 thousand people have taken shelter at relief camps.Assam government has issued high alert notice to 10 districts to avert any possible disturbance. Various political parties and civil society organisations urged people to maintain peace and harmony.
