Assam violence: Curfew relaxed for 12 hrs in Chirang, Sonitpur dist

In Assam, curfew has been relaxed for 12 hours in Chirang district and Tezpur in Sonitpur district. People in good number came out from home to buy necessary items. Government and private offices, banks are open. Indefinite curfew has also been relaxed at Barpeta Road and Howly in Barpeta district for three to four hours. But curfew continues at Aam Bagan area in Nagaon district. Peace committees were formed at Barpeta Road including various communities.

A group of ministers and all party delegation were camping and touring Lower Assam to monitor law and order situation. Security has been strengthened by deploying army and additional Para-military forces. 13 columns of army is staging flag march. Security forces have also been deployed at 114 fixed pickets. Mr. Harsh Mander, Special Commissioner appointed by the Supreme Court will also visit Bodoland Territorial Area Districts today to take stock of the relief measure. Assam government has decided to expedite the rehabilitation measure in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri district.

The Principal Secretary of the state Revenue department has been deputed to monitor the rehabilitation works. Assam government and the representatives of Bodoland Territorial Council held a discussion yesterday and decided to rehabilitate the displaced genuine citizen as soon as possible.

The next round of meeting will be held on 6th of September. Meanwhile, temporary camps are being set up by district administrations to shift those people who have taken shelter at relief camps so that classes can be resumed soon in the violence hit areas. At present 2 lakh 35 thousand people are staying at 213 relief camps, mostly set up at educational institutions.
