In Assam, Criminal Investigation Department of state police is investigating the killings of innocent people in Baksa district during recent violence. Additional DGP (CID) Mukesh Sahay said that CID team led by a DSP level officer is in Baksa to expedite the probe of Narayanguri carnage in which 18 people were killed. Sources in the state government also said that priority has been given to bring normalcy in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, BTAD and expeditious investigation of cases to bring the culprits to the book.
So far 30 people have been arrested. No untoward incident has been reported during the last 48 hours. Curfew has been relaxed for 6 hours in Chirang district from 10 am. But it is continuing in Baksa and Kokrajhar districts. Around 500 people have taken shelter at a relief camp in Baksa district. Food items are being given to them. District administration has announced ex-gratia to the next of the deceased family. Army is staging flag march.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today talked to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over phone and took stock of the situation. Gogoi said that all steps have been taken to bring normalcy. Ms Gandhi hoped that law and order situation will prevail in the area. On the demand of Chief Minister’s visit to violence hit Baksa by the relatives of deceased, Chief Minister’s Office said that if Tarun Gogoi visits Baksa, security may need to be re-arranged which may create problems. So as of now Mr. Gogoi is not undertaking a visit to Baksa. A team of CPI-M is visiting Baksa district to take stock of the situation.
