The Assam Police has arrested 62 persons in connection with the violence at Barpeta Road in Barpeta district during the bandh called by the All Assam Minority Students Union on Tuesday. Senior police officials in Guwahati said that all the arrested persons will be produced before a local court tomorrow.

No untoward incident has been reported in violence hit Lower Assam during the last 24 hours. Curfew has been relaxed at Tezpur of Sonitupur district for 12 hours. But indefinite curfew continues at Barpeta Road and Howly in Barpeta district. Assam government is also mulling options on taking action against the leaders of organisations who called the bandh.
