Assam urges for special package from Centre

Assam Government urged the Centre to provide special fund as naxal affected state. Apart from it, the state government also requested the Centre to provide special package for around six thousand surrendered militants.

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi discussed these issues with Union Home minister P. Chidambaram this morning at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati.

Later talking to newsmen,Mr.Gogoi said that issues of Maoist and ISI, peace talks with various insurgent groups and overall law and order situation in the state, were discussed with the Union Home Minister.

Gogoi said that the state government has taken all steps to prevent the rise of Maoist in the state. He revealed that ISI is providing help to banned outfit ULFA and Maoist in Assam. He also said that a few insurgent groups are still working from the soil of Myanmar. He expressed hope that the Myanmar government would able to flush out all the militant groups of the region which have camps on its soil.

Both the leaders discussed on the ongoing peace talks with ULFA, DHD, KLNF and NDFB. Gogoi also urged the Paresh Baruah led faction of the ULFA , to shun violence and join in the peace process for the overall development of the region.
