Assam will soon have a separate policy for achieving self-sufficiency in the agriculture sector. Speaking to media persons in Guwahati, the State Agriculture Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka said the district agricultural officers had been instructed to prepare an annual action plan of their region for this purpose.The Minister has asked the officials to identify areas conducive for setting up of food processing units aiming at generating more employment opportunities. Mr. Deka said that the field management committees would be modernized and steps would be taken to ensure that all the farmers get the benefits of the Government schemes without much hassles.He also announced that consultancy service for the farmers would be introduced soon.
