Assam to provide free medical facilities to 60 L students

The Assam Government has taken an ambitious scheme to provide free medical treatment to around 62 lakh students in 60,000 schools across the state.According to official sources, students below the age group of 12 years are to be covered under the scheme. Three thousand volunteers of the National Rural Health Mission and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan along with doctors would be engaged to carry out health check-ups in the schools from September this year.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has assured to sanction Rs 50 crore from the state exchequer for smooth implementation of the scheme. The State Government has also decided to open separate hospitals for special treatment of child and women.
