In Assam, the health department will launch Iron Sucrose injection programme in 14 districts by early next month to reduce Maternal Mortality Ration, MMR. Assam has recorded 381 MMR per lakh at present.According to a recent report, the MMR in the state has declined to a great extent. At present Assam has recorded 381 MMR per lakh against 480 in the year 2005-2006.State NRHM Mission Director, Mr. Prattek Hajela said that the state has also recorded the highest decline rate in the country in terms of maternal mortality. Now the health department has decided to launch the programme in 14 sensitive districts to further bring down the mortality ration. The injection is widely used in treatment of iron deficiency anemia, reports our AIR correspondent.
