The Assam Government has decided to computerise entire Public Distribution System (PDS) in the state in order to check the leakage of items sold through it.This was disclosed by State Food and Civil Supply Minister Dr. Nazrul Islam in Guwahati on Friday. He said the Centre had released Rs 8 crore to the State Government for computerisation of the system initially in three districts of Kamrup, Nagaon and Karbi Anglong. The remaining districts will be covered in a phased manner.The Minister admitted that 15 to 25 per cent of the PDS items in the state are diverted to black market. 8 killed in Pak in clash with Taliban militants In Pakistan, five soldiers and three militants were killed today in a clash with Taliban rebels in South Waziristan tribal region in the country's restive northwest. According to the official of the localadministration in Peshawar, five soldiers were killed following the clash that erupted when militants targeted the check post in Sararogha area, a former stronghold of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.The security forces launched a counter attack killing three Taliban rebels. Six rebels were wounded in the gun battle.Sources said Taliban were opposing the return of 400,000 tribesmen who were displaced during an operation launched by the army last year to flush out militants. The militants have sent out a clear message to the tribesmen not to come back to the region.Taliban attack came hours after a US drone killed at least four rebels in North Waziristan tribal region. The drone hit a vehicle near Mirali, a key town in North Waziristan.The area where the attack occurred is considered a hot bed of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives. In recent weeks, the US has significantly increased drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal areas.
