Assam government has taken special initiative to launch a housing project in Guwahati. The project is being implemented by Guwahati Municipal Corporation under Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP), which is a sub-mission of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Official sources said that altogether 2260 units would be constructed under the project.AIR correspondent reports, the main thrust of the project is the integrated development of slum areas by providing shelter, basic services and other related civic amenities. In a bid to provide housing facilities to the city’s urban poor, Guwahati Municipal Corporation has taken up construction works at Fatashil, Morsali and Amingaon areas. The corporation has already completed the construction of 352 housing units at Fatashil area and distribution of allotment certification is likely to be completed within this month. On the other hand, construction works at Morsali and Amingaon areas are at war footing. Once completed, the project would provide in-campus school community centres along with rain water harvesting facilities.
