In Assam, the situation in the violence hit districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri is limping back to normal as security forces have intensified patrolling. Night curfew continues in the violence marred areas as precautionary measures. Home Minister P Chidambaram will visit violence hit areas for two days beginning tomorrow. He is likely to visit Kokrajhar tomorrow to take stock of the situation.
Mr. Chidambaram, who has been monitoring the Assam situation, will hold meetings with top civil and police officials. The Home Minister is expected to visit a few relief camps and review the relief and rehabilitation steps taken for those who lost their kin and suffered losses during the violence. He is likely to hold separate meetings with Governor J B Patnaik, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his council of Ministers.Tarun Gogoi will also visit Dhubri district tomorrow to take stock of the relief measures.
Meanwhile, the death toll has gone up to 58 . Another 67 people sustained injuries and 7 people are still missing. Around 4 lakh people are being sheltered at 278 relief camps. Medical teams and nurses have been deployed at the relief camps.
