In Assam, curfew has been lifted at Tezpur in Sonitpur from 6am this morning. As the situation improved, curfew was also relaxed at Chirang district for 15 hours, four to 15 hours at Howly and Barpeta Road and eight hours at Aam Bagan in Nagaon district. People came out from their homes to buy necessary items.
Government, private offices and banks are open. Army is staging flag march to avert any disturbance. State Home Secretary said that a team of Special Commissioners appointed by the Supreme Court is visiting Kokrajhar and Chirang district to take stock of the relief measures. They will also meet Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and state Chief Secretary later today.
Mr Gogoi said that the situation in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts is improving and the affected people are willing to return .Above two lakh people are still staying in the relief camps. The Chief Minister further said that the confidence-building measures are gradually starting to work in violence hit areas. A team of senior journalists are touring relief camps as part of goodwill mission.
Classes have already been started at a few schools. Temporary camps are being set up by district administrations to shift those people who have taken shelter at relief camps so that classes can be resumed soon in the remaining schools.
Meanwhile, 12 hundred tickets have already been booked for the special train that will run between Guwahati-Bangalore tomorrow.
