Security forces have intensified patrolling in vulnerable areas in the violence hit Bodoland Territorial Area District and adjoining Dhubri district. Army is also continuing flag march. The District administration has relaxed day curfew. So far, 77 people have died in the recent violence. The Assam Police arrested 172 miscreants for indulging in violent activities. The Assam government also urged Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Kerala to ensure the safety of people of Assam who are staying there. Relief and rehabilitation measures are being carried out on a war footing in the three districts. A team of eminent artists and writers yesterday visited Chirang district to promote peace and harmony. Our correspondent reports that as the situation improved, more people have returned to their homes. Steps are also being taken to decongest the relief camps in some areas.UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also asked the administration yesterday during her visit to Kokrajhar and Dhubri.Assam government has instructed the concerned departments to expedite relief and rehabilitation measures. A team of Minority Commission visited relief camps and took stock of the relief measures. The team will submit a report to the Commission.
