In Assam, security has been intensified across the state to avert any untoward incident in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations. Official sources said that general alert has been sounded across the state as anti-talk faction of ULFA and other militant groups have engaged in subversive activities. Patrolling has been intensified in vulnerable areas. Police, army, BSF and CRPF have been deployed for round the clock vigil at the playgrounds where Independence Day will be held.Security forces arrested one ULFA cadre and also recovered four Remote Controlled Explosive Devices, RCED, at Mohong in Tinsukia district yesterday. One NSCN-Khaplang militant was shot dead last night in Sibsagar district. Police also recovered a bomb weighing two kilograms at Padmabil in Kokrajhar yesterday.Meanwhile, civil society organisations urged all to celebrate the Independence Day, defying the diktat of militant groups. Various outfits have called for a general strike tomorrow.
