Assam polls: EC to hold meeting with Chief Secy, DGP

In poll bound Assam, the full bench of Election Commission will hold meeting with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police today in Guwahati. Official sources said, the Commission has emphasized on covering vulnerable areas as a confidence building measure. The Election Commission discussed this issue last evening in a review meeting with district officials. The Commission also took stock of implementation of Model Code of Conduct and law and order situation. Representatives of political parties also met Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the Commission. Meanwhile, today is the last date for submission of nominations for the second phase. Polling will be held on 11th of next month in 61 seats in second phase. <br/>Several senior Congress leaders will submit their nomination papers today. Congress has announced its second list of 57 candidates yesterday. State Agriculture minister Rockybul Hussein and Health minister Nazrul Islam among others have been included in the list. From the BJP's camp, former state President Siddhartha Bhattacharya, senior leaders Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chandra Mohan Patowary have already submitted their nomination papers for the second phase. Apart from them, Asom Gana Parishad's Phani Bhusan Choudhury ,Liberal Democratic Party President Pradyut Bora, Pramila Rani Brahma of Bodoland People's Front and AIUDF candidate Mojibur Rahman are also in the fray in the second phase of polls.
