Assam polls: 509 nominations found to be valid after scrutiny

In Assam, altogether 509 nominations found to be valid after scrutiny for the first phase of elections scheduled to be held on 4th of next month. State Election Department sources in Guwahati said, 20 nominations out of 529 received, for this phase, were rejected at the time of scrutiny which completed this evening .The last day of withdrawal of nominations for this phase of elections has been fixed on Monday next. The first phase of elections will cover 62 constituencies in 13 districts of Upper Assam, three districts of Barak Valley and two hill districts -North Cachar and Karbi Anglong.The second phase of polls spread over 64 constituencies will be held on 11th of next month. Meanwhile,former State Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Anowara Taimur resigned from the party after being denied the party ticket in the ensuing polls.She has announced to join the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) soon. The party has announced its second list of candidates in 35 constituencies today.
