The Chief Election Commissioner S.Y.Quraishi, accompanied by two other Election Commissioners- H.S. Brahma and V. S. Sampath arrived in Guwahati on Wednesday afternoon to review the poll preparedness in Assam. According to official sources, the team is holding meetings with the State Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP) and the District Election Officers to review overall law and order situation and other poll arrangements. The Election Commissioners will also meet the representatives of the recognized political parties separately to obtain their views for smooth conduct of the Assembly election in 126 constituencies of the State. Meanwhile, the State Government has submitted a formal proposal to the Election Commission to hold Assembly polls in the State in two phases tentatively on 4th and 9th April.
