In Assam, all police stations have been put on an alert against human trafficking attempts in the state. The alert follows intelligence inputs that human trafficking rackets are trying to supply young girls to various parts of the country from the State during the on-going festive season. An Alert has also been sounded in Guwahati, especially in railway stations and bus terminals. The Non-Governmental organizations have been asked to be on alert to track the movement of any suspicious persons in their localities. Police said, most of the girls from the region are lured by pimps or middleman in the name of job and forced into prostitution during the festive season. AIR correspondent reports that, according to official reports, Assam has off late witnessed a sharp rise in the number of people who have either been trafficked or have gone missing.
