Assam: Panchayat, RRD conduct skill mapping of returnee workers

In Assam, the Panchayat and Rural Development Department is doing the skill mapping of the workers who returned to their homes due to COVID-19 pandemic. Principal Secretary of the Department J B Ekka told AIR that over 64 thousand persons have been covered in this process so far.<br />''<br />''Mr. Ekka said that this is going to be a continuous process which would help various departments in recruiting skilled youths.<br />''                                           <br />''As per the skill mapping , the 64 thousand members of workforce have been engaged in 138 different jobs in various states and abroad . They worked in the construction field, agri sector, cyber security, driving, health and industry sector as well as in the IT sector.<br />''<br />''In all, 18, 500 persons had been working as labourers in different states while 1,200 workers have skills in the electronics sector. Another 1,200 youths were engaged in bakeries and two thousand 300 worked as carpenters. Three thousand migrant workers were doing cooking jobs. The Assam Government has taken various steps to provide engagement to them within the state .<br />''<br />''Thirty five thousand have been provided job cards under MGNREGA while 25 thousand migrated workers are interested in getting skill training. <br />
