In Assam, a three day Orchid Festival will begin in Dhemaji today. State Forest minister Rockybul Hussain will inaugurate an Orchid Village at Rangajaan to commemorate the festival. The festival is being organized by the Dhemaji district administration and supported by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation. AIR correspondent adds that the main idea of organizing the festival is to promote the orchid cultivation for economic benefit. Over 100 orchids found in the wilds of Northeast will be showcased in the festival. Northeast is the home of over 800 species of beautiful orchids. Orchids are famous for their different and attractive colours, shapes and beauty. Orchids are also being used in making of scent and cosmetics.
