Assam: Opposition parties staged walk-out in Legislative Assembly

In Assam, the major opposition, All India United Democratic Front, AIUDF today staged a walk-out in the State Legislative Assembly following Speaker’s rejection of an adjournment motion. The Motion was jointly raised by AIUDF and the Asom Gana Parishad, AGP to discuss the issue of police firing incident at Dispur on 22nd of last month where three protestors of eviction-affected families, including a child, died. Several members of both the parties earlier pleaded the Speaker Pranab Gogoi to allow discussion on the Adjournment Motion, canceling all other businesses of the day. Speaking on the admissibility of the matter, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta criticized the Government for using lethal weapons by the police to control the mob. He also demanded the State Government to evaluate a clear-cut Land Allotment Policy for the landless people in the state.
