Assam: NRHM begin 3-days Filaria eradication drive

In Assam, National Rural Health Mission has started a 3 -days Filaria eradication drive from today. Tablets to erridicate the menace are being distributed in 10 districts of the state.Health workers are visiting door to door to provide people the tablets. Assam has recorded 1079 Lymphatic Filaria,LF ,cases in 2010. Apart from it, 1472 cases of hydrocele ,which is also a form of filaria, have also been registered in the state. Early detection of filaria can be cured by administering the tablets.The drive will contniue for 12 days. Medical experts said that LF, is transmitted through mosquito bites.
