The Assam and Nagaland government have agreed to resolve the border dispute amicably.

In a meeting held between the Chief Ministers of the two states in Guwahati today, it was also decided to form a joint mechanism to work out a solution to the problem.

Union minister of state for Home Kiren Rijiju said that the Centre would extend all possible help and support to both the states to contain the situation.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that first priority is to restore peace and he urged all to help in restoring peace .

Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang said that Nagalnd government has already constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter. He said that 15 miscreants were arrested for their alleged involvement in the violence.

Both the Chief Ministers emphasised that CRPF deployed at border areas should be given more powers.

Tension prevailed at Uriamghat of Golaghat district in Assam- Nagaland border after Naga miscreants killed 9 civilians and torched down several houses recently.

Curfew has been relaxed in Golaghat district from 5: 30 pm to nine pm tonight.

DIG, Pradip Saloi said that the death toll has gone up to three in yesterday’s clash.

One injured protester succumbed to his injuries today.

Mr. Saloi said that barring a few stray incidents, no untoward incident has been reported in Golaghat district, but a strict vigil is being maintained by the security forces.
