Assam-Naga border tensions: MoS Home likely to attend CMs meet in Guwahati

The Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland will meet in Guwahati in a short while on the border issue. Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and senior officials of both the states are also likely to participate in the meeting. Issue of Assam – Nagland border violence among others are likely to figure in the meeting.

Meanwhile, curfew continues in Golaghat districts.The army is staging a flag march in sensitive areas. Six additional companies of security forces will arrive in Golaghat today. Curfew was imposed after 2 persons died and several injured in a clash with security personnel yesterday.

Police said an agitated crowd blocked the road at Telgaram in Numaligarh but security personnel cleared the road. Normal life has been affected in many parts of the state including Guwahati . Several organisations called for dawn-to-dusk Assam bandh protesting the police action in Golaghat. Shops, business organisations remain closed in Guwahati. Public vehicles are off the roads.

A high level meeting of the Ministry for the Development of the North Eastern Region, DoNEAR, was held in Guwahati to discuss the development of the region. Union DoNEAR Minister V K Singh, Union Home Minister for state Kiren Rijjiju, Chief Ministers of the North East, MPs and senior officials have participated.
