Assam: Miscreants kill one person in Guwahati; Govt. rehabilitation measures for former rebels

Miscreants killed one person at busy Paltan Bazar area in Guwahati last evening. Police recovered one hand made pistol from the spot. Earlier, Army personnel arrested a cadre of a rebel outfit and seized crude bomb at Bogulmari area in Dhubri district.Meanwhile, under the Centre's rehabilitation plan, 423 former Karbi rebels of United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) including 26 women, were given cheques of one lakh 50 thousand rupees each at Diphu in Karbi Anglong. The Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong district B B Chetri said that in the first phase, funds have been given to them and the Assam Government is also mulling option to appoint former insurgents in Police department.The UPDS signed a Memorandum of Settlement with the Centre and Assam Government in November last year. After the accord, a few leaders of the outfit participated in local bodies’ elections. Some insurgents have also been engaged in rubber plantation.
