In Assam, a 52-member committee has been constituted with the Speaker Pranab Gogoi to celebrate the platinum jubilee of the State Legislative Assembly in a grand manner. Principal Secretary of the Assembly, Gauranga Prasad Das has been made the member-secretary of the committee. It has been decided to celebrate the occasion in a two-day programme beginning 7th April next.It was on April 7, 1937 that the Assam Legislative Assembly had started functioning with 108 members at Shillong. According to the programme chalked out, the open session will be held on April 8. The President, the Prime Minister, the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Chief Ministers and Assembly Speakers of all the north-eastern States will be attending the open session. All former MLAs of Assam will be invited to the open session.
