Union Home minister Rajnath Singh termed the killings of civilians by militants in Assam as an act of terror and not a mere case of insurgency. He said that the centre has taken the matter very seriously and zero tolerance policy will be adopted against terrorism. He also said that operation will be launched against National Democratic Front of Bodoland( Sangbijit faction). He was talking to media at Biswanath Chariali in violence hit Sonitpur district after attending a meeting with government officials.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Union Tribal Affairs minister Jwel Oram and Union Home minister for state Kiren Rijiju along with 2 senior ministers of Assam attended the meeting. Mr. Singh said that Tribal Affairs minister Jwel Oram will visit relief camps and submit a report. Several organizations have also met him and demanded proper steps to ensure peace. later he left for violence affected Kokrajhar district.
Meanwhile, security forces are maintaining a strict vigil at violence hit areas. The army is staging flag march. Curfew continues in many areas following the violence. 74 persons lost their lives in recent violence. Among them, over 40 were women and children. Miscreants torched down houses in many areas .Security forces have arrested 2 miscreants yesterday in Kokrajhar last night.
Meanwhile, Home Commissioner (Political) Prateek Hajela said that situation is stable in violence affected districts. He said that over 14 thousand people are taking shelter in 4 districts. Steps are being taken to provide them necessary help.
