In Assam, indefinite curfew has been imposed in entire Baksa district this evening after miscreants reportedly torched down houses. Assam Home Commissioner G D Tripathi said this in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed the police to deal firmly with the current situation in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, BTAD. Banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit group) killed 11 innocent persons in Kokrajhar and Baska district last night.
Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde called up the chief minister today and assured him all possible helps to contain the situation. Meanwhile, the army has staged flag march to instill confidence among people in the violence affected areas.
Six companies of Quick Response Teams have been deployed in Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Baksa. The Assam government has also asked the Centre to depute additional 10 companies of para-military force.
Kokrajhar district administration today held peace meeting and urged all to maintain peace and harmony. Opposition political parties have condemned the incidents. AIUDF demanded CBI inquiry into the killing of innocent people.
