Assam: high alert in view of ULFA bandh tomorrow

In Assam, security has been placed on high alert all over the State in view of tomorrow’s 12-hour bandh called by banned ULFA. Additional forces have been put in place in all the vulnerable areas and important installations to maintain a strict vigil on the movements of the militants. Anti-insurgency operation has also been intensified.
The banned outfit has given the bandh call in protest against latest arrest of two of their top Bangladesh-based cadres- self-styled foreign secretary Sasadhar Choudhury and finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika. The two militants were handed over to the Border Security Force authorities by Bangladesh Rifles three days back.
Meanwhile, two motor-cycle-borne ULFA militants were shot dead by security forces in an encounter at Gobaradal village under Tihu police station in Nalbari district last night. One motor cycle, two 9 mm pistols and some live ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain militants.
In another incident, a hand grenade was exploded at a primary school premise at Rukakhata in Bilasipara area of the Dhubri district today. There was however no casualty. Police recovered another unexploded bomb from the same venue and later it was defused.
