In Assam, with only five days left for filing nominations for the first phase of polls, the political parties of the State have continued hectic parleys to finalize the list of candidates. The first phase of election will cover 62 Assembly segments in 13 districts polling for which has been fixed on 4th of the next month. Polling for the second phase of election in remaining 64 constituencies is scheduled to be held on 11th April next.The main opposition Asom Gana Parishad today announced its fourth list of candidates containing 26 names for the ensuing polls in the State. The party has so far released the names of candidates against 96 constituencies of the 126-member State House. The Assam Pradesh Samata Party has also released the names of seven candidates today. The left parties have jointly decided to field their candidates in 48 constituencies. A ruling Congress spokesman told our Guwahati Correspondent that the party will release its list of candidates for all the 126-constituencies by this evening.Meanwhile, Director General of Information, Education and Communication of the Election Commission Akshay Rout today reviewed the voter education programme launched by different media units of the State and the Central Government in Guwahati. He asked the media units to speed up voter awareness programmes to ensure selection of right persons as their representatives.
