Assam govt. to request CBI to investigate into multi-crore anomalies

The Assam Government has decided to request the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, to investigate into multi-crore rupees financial anomalies in eight departments of the North Cachar Hills District. Disclosing this to newsmen in Guwahati, the State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi said since the North Cachar Hills Council comes under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution; the State Government has decided to request the central investigating agency through the Governor Mr. JB Patnaik.Earlier, the State Government had requested the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to conduct a special audit of alleged financial anomalies in all the departments in North Cachar Hills due to large-scale public protests. The CAG, after its investigation found misappropriation and diversion of funds in the Agriculture, Public Works, Public Health Engineering, Health, Tourism, Social Welfare and Education departments from the fiscal year 2007 to 2009. The CAG submitted its report to the State Government last month.
