Assam government has taken the initiative to enrol BPL families under the Rashtriya Swashtya Bima Yojna( RSBY). The scheme is being implemented in 5 districts of Assam to improve health condition of BPL families. In a bid to provide better health care,27 private and 21 public hospitals have been empanelled in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar and Lakhimpur district. Official sources said, that out of 4 lakh 95 thousand BPL families more than 2 lakh have been registered so far under the scheme. As per guidelines, the hospital care facilities extend to five members of the family which includes the head of family, spouse and upto three dependents. The objective of Rashtriya Swashtya Bima Yojna is to provide protection to BPL households from financial liabilities arising out of medical treatment that need hospitalization. In a bid to provide better health care,27 private and 21 public hospitals have been empanelled in Dibrugarh, Jorhat,Kamrup,Kokrajhar and Lakhimpur district. Official sources said that out of 4 lakh 95 thousand BPL families more than 2 lakh have been registered so far under the scheme in the five districts of the state. A smart card is being issued to each to each beneficiary and covers a family of five persons facilitating expenses up to Rs.30 thousand per annum.The scheme also provides freedom to the BPL families to choice between public and private hospitals.
